As the Founder of the YogaLife Institute of New Hampshire, I welcome you to our website. We believe it responds to a need that Yoga students and teachers have for greater connection and community. It is also an opportunity to share Yoga's rich lineage of philosophy, science, spirit and practice which, though timeless in its presentation, often needs some interpretation for the Western student of a different era and cultural understanding.
It is this interpretation that I am most grateful to my teacher, Dr. Bob Butera. I can hear him as he spoke of his own teacher, Dr. Jayadeva (son of Shri Yogendra, Founder of the Yoga Institute of Mumbai) who said in an Indian accent, "You must bring Yoga to the people, not people to Yoga".
Dr. Butera brought Yoga to me in a way that I could understand and apply to my life. Through individual mentorship, he also provided invaluable personal guidance on my own unique Yoga journey. This is a key component of YogaLife's Teacher Training Program, as well as the way we teach Classical Yoga in the community.
I find myself often saying "There are very few truths in Yoga, but as Yoga teachers we learn to say them in many different ways". We also know that all the knowledge we need is already within each of us. But our teachers, as well as our daily practice, serve to provide that "reminder" of what we already know in our hearts and souls to be true. We need reminders, practice and more practice, and a community that supports us in our path towards enlightenment.
