How to Guide Self-Discovery and Uplift Body Image
Yoga professionals have the privilege of guiding students through movement experiences and the responsibility of creating safe spaces for this body exploration to unfold. In an age of unreasonable beauty ideals, selfies, “before and after” photos, fad diets, “Thinspiration,” and a high prevalence of eating disorders, it’s essential we are sensitive to the possibility that our students and clients have body image concerns in their lives, potentially making movement an uneasy experience.
By learning how to teach “body mindfully,” or integrate body affirming language into your cueing, themes, and messaging, you will help every individual leave Yoga classes and private sessions feeling safe, supported, and uplifted throughout their personal journeys.
In this workshop, led by certified yoga therapist and coauthor of Body Mindful Yoga Jennifer Kreatsoulas, PhD, you will:
- Explore language that affirms all bodies and abilities to increase positive connection and appreciations for one’s body
- Learn how to guide versus prescribe physical and emotional sensations to create the environment and experiences for insights to reveal themselves
- Receive education on body image
- Experience a variety of Body Mindful Yoga practices to apply in your teaching and personal practice
- Build a “Body Mindful Yoga” vocabulary for cultivating emotional safety and uplifting body image
- Practice teaching new skills, cues, and themes
- Connect with a supportive Body Mindful Yoga Teacher network
Our three hour Advanced Teaching Workshops are intended to increase skills directly related to teaching groups, including ability to share and discuss the topic, lead experiential practices, and structure and sequence a yoga class.This workshop is open to Yoga teachers, teachers in training, as well as counselors, energy healers and curious students.

Jennifer Kreatsoulas, PhD, E-RYT 500, C-IAYT, is a certified yoga therapist specializing in eating disorders and body image. She is an inspirational speaker and author of Body Mindful Yoga: Create a Powerful and Affirming Relationship With Your Body. Jennifer provides yoga therapy via online and in person at YogaLife Institute in Wayne, PA, and leads yoga therapy groups at Monte Nido Eating Disorder Center of Philadelphia. She teaches workshops, retreats, and specialized trainings for clinicians, professionals, and yoga teachers. She also mentors professionals who wish to integrate yoga into their work with eating disorder clients. Jennifer is a partner with the Yoga & Body Image Coalition and writes for Yoga International and Yoga Journal and other influential blogs.
