Certified Yoga Therapist ProgramNext Level 1 Session (310 Hours) Begins September 22nd

For more information please visit the Level 1 page Comprehensive Yoga Therapy Level 1

Why Yoga Therapy?

There's no denying that we are in a state of health crisis in the Western world. As many great minds work toward evolving the current system of patient care, the certified Comprehensive Yoga Therapist will be in a unique position to pick up where modern medicine leaves off, empowering clients to augment their current care model with exploration and resolution of the deeper lifestyle issues that lie at the root of many modern disease conditions.

Students of yoga join the Comprehensive Yoga Therapy training to both guide their personal and professional growth while honing their abilities to work in a wider variety of populations and settings. Others are professionals – from doctors and nurses to physical therapists and personal trainers, psychologists and nutritionists – who are aware of the holes in the current healthcare model and are seeking new ideas to enhance their current approaches.

Comprehensive Yoga Therapy is taught by a dynamic team of high-level professionals in the field of Yoga Therapy. All of the teachers have an experiential background in Classical Yoga Therapy, and bring with them the perspectives from their own personal professions. From PhDs in yoga and physical therapy to veteran ERYT500 teachers, doctors, biologists, and psychiatrists, the Comprehensive Yoga Therapy instructional team is by its very nature a holistic entity!

What is Comprehensive Yoga Therapy?

A Holistic Yogic Lifestyle Approach

The Comprehensive Yoga Therapy program at YogaLife views each aspect of the human experience as having the potential to be a source of healing and inspiration. Fragmentation and stress is universal, yet each individual experiences stress as well as health & healing very differently. This program aims to assess and understand the whole person with an eye towards cultivating the Yogic approach of embracing the many different and interrelated levels on which healing can occur – energetic, emotional, intellectual and spiritual. While a human being may not always be able to control pain or the outcome of the healing process, Yoga teaches that each individual may overcome the resistance to pain or suffering.

This program intends to shift the current cultural healthcare perspective from the passive patient model to a more active model where the patient is a student of their own processes and becomes empowered to be a proactive participant in their own healing. The course does not intend to make the Yoga Therapist into a Doctor, Psychologist, Physical Therapist or other therapeutic professional who deals with acute disease conditions. In this model, the Yoga Therapist works with other medical and healing professionals as a supporting expert offering clients a highly personalized holistic health and lifestyle plan along with stress management tools that suit their individual situation and needs.

All of the YogaLife Institute training programs are based on the work of The Yoga Institute, Mumbai, India. Considered to be the oldest organized yoga center in the world, they were the first to open their doors to the general householder public in 1917. Under the guidance of founder Shri Yogendra, The Yoga Institute has worked with the medical community in India researching the therapeutic benefits of yoga since its inception and offered Yoga Therapy programs for the general public for more than 90 years. They continue to be a leader in the field of yoga therapy.

The key foundational principles of psychology and spirituality, lifestyle and philosophy, meditation and psychosomatic practices, healthy routines and yoga hygiene, yoga postures and breathing exercises offer a strong and scientifically proven approach for creating and/or maintaining a Healthy Yoga Lifestyle.

Level One

Next program begins September 22nd.

Level I of the Comprehensive Yoga Therapy program at YogaLife Institute focuses on real-life applications of foundational yogic principles and tools to assist clients in more realistically managing their stress points and living better, more wholesome lives. Using the classical yoga lineage designed for modern householder life, trainees will learn means of empowering those they work with toward Self-realization as a path to wellness. But the focus of this training is not solely on skills for working with others, the mastery of these techniques starts first with the application in the trainees’ own lives. Additionally, students will learn and develop essential tools for self-care of the therapist, ensuring that their inner balance is maintained so as to be the most effective guide for others.

In addition to the formal structure of the course as described below to facilitate learning, a big piece of students’ growth is in the interaction with their peers. This program encourages active listening and sharing, not from the advice perspective, but from the communal benefit of hearing different perspectives and experiences. This program takes pride in the fact that essentially every moment from the first is a learning opportunity – a vision we encourage in those that we work with as clients as well!

In-depth topics of study offered in Level I of the training (and advanced/mastered in Levels II and III) include:
